Artist Biography

Isali Arielle is a multimedia artist whose practice spans printmaking, sculpture and multi-sensory installation with the aim of creating an entrancing, overwhelming environment that disorientates and hypnotises the viewer. Her practice explores themes of identity and trauma and is characterised by gestural, calligraphic mark-making. Working in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, she creates narratives that move beyond the page and into a physical space to interact with the viewer. ‘Dancing Spirits’, appear as recurrent esoteric motifs morphing into a language comprised of symbols, forming a code, connecting to something beyond us; playing with the conflict between control and oppressive gestural mark-making. There is a clash of existence, the scars of consciousness are left amongst the destruction of industrialisation, walking through a plane of limbo on the borderline of the physical and the infinite. Exploring themes of ancient Semitic wisdom, capturing the clash of existence torn between the roots of the ancestral, the pull of the spiritual, and the chaos of materialism.
